What your training never explained
You were taught how to apply a product. Not what happens inside it. Why some gels cure through and others only at the surface. Why your lamp has to match the product rather than the other way round. Why a label and a safety data sheet can contradict each other — and which of the two to believe.
Two books, one hour each. Written for the nail desk, not the laboratory. Chapters run one to three pages: read them in order, or look one up when a client asks something you cannot answer.
Nail Chemistry Essentials
A quick fact-based guide to acrylic, hard gel, soak-off builder gel and gel polish.
Every gel and every acrylic you work with is built from small reactive molecules. How many of them end up in the chain — and how many stay free and reach skin — decides how well your work holds and whether you or your client ends up allergic.
• How curing actually works, and how to spot an under-cure
• Why 99% of UV lamps under-cure or over-cure
• What a label says, what may be missing and what must not be
• How to read a safety data sheet in two minutes
• What is banned, what is restricted — and what happens when you mix brands and systems
• Nine real Safety Data Sheets pulled apart — errors and formulations that cannot work, so you can judge any product you are sold
Paperback $19.90 · Kindle $9.99
Nail Allergies — Essentials
Spot it, stop it, handle it — before your next client.
An acrylate allergy does not arrive overnight. It builds, over months and sometimes years, out of contacts that could have been avoided. And once it is there it does not go away. It is the biggest occupational risk in this trade and it hits clients as well as technicians.
• The early signs, in yourself and in your client
• Why “HEMA-free” on a label is not a guarantee
• Which gloves actually protect and which only look like it
• What to change at the desk: the gap, the layers, the lamp, the air
• What to do the day it happens — the six steps, and the things you must not say
Printed in colour. The gallery shows reactions as they present at the table — eyelids, neck, nail folds, blisters, onycholysis — so you know what you are looking at before you see it on a client. That is why this volume costs more than the chemistry one: colour printing rather than standard.
Paperback $29.15 · Kindle $11.44

A contact allergy is diagnosed by a dermatologist with a patch test. No book, and no look across the nail desk, replaces that. These books tell you when it is time.
Who wrote this
Robert Giblett BSc.Eng founded IKON.IQ in 2009, after several colleagues developed career-ending contact dermatitis from acrylic and gel products. The purpose was to build professional nail products that were both the safest and the best performing — not one at the expense of the other.
2011 brought the EU's first hypoallergenic builder gel. In 2015 he founded the first Facebook group giving fact-based advice on nail product allergies. He has written over 60 articles for the international trade press, and lives and works in Aachen, Germany.
Prefer the course?
Both books have a companion online course with assessment and a certificate. Five modules, at your own pace: start one between clients, stop mid-lesson, pick up exactly where you left off.
